Familiarity breeds contempt. A change is as good as a rest. Or, if it ‘aint broke don’t fix it?

Yes, a time honoured tradition was broken last night as the annual Upton Summer Time Trials changed route! Having run in this series of races on and off for the last 7/8 years, it was a surprise to learn that the route had changed. It used to start in the middle of a car park which perhaps wasn’t the best, most safety conscious idea, so I can see why the organisers might have preferred to change it to start in front of the grand façade of Upton House.

For me, the race seemed to go quicker than usual although it also seemed to have more uphill to it. My watch bonked out halfway round so I’ve no idea if it was the same length as previous years or not?

The route winds its way around wooded paths and gravel tracks and always makes for a nice run and with over 100 people taking part, there was a good turn out.

I’m choosing to call this first one a practice turn, as although I did ok, it wasn’t my finest run and there was still plenty in the tank when I’d finished. Look forward to race 2/6!
